Abstract

The source of electrical energy comes from fossil fuels, so it is necessary to develop new and renewable energy sources such as Solar Power Plants (PLTS) which utilize solar energy to produce electrical energy. The increase in solar radiation causes the efficiency produced by the solar module as the main component of PLTS to be not optimal and the use of data loggers as a recorder for solar module parameters is considered to be less efficient. This study aims to provide notifications in the form of warnings if excess temperatures occur in solar modules and monitor via smartphones using Internet of Things (IoT) based thinger.io. Based on data for 14 days, it shows that the over-temperature monitoring system using IoT-based thinger.io has succeeded in sending over-temperature warning notifications on the smartphone's main screen when the surface temperature of the solar module is equal to or more than 45 °C. The notification is only visible when the PV temperature is equal to or more than 45 °C and appears again when the temperature drops below 45 °C and then rises again to exceed 45 °C. As well as monitoring voltage, current, surface temperature of solar modules, and solar radiation on IoT-based thinger.io and data loggers have an average error percentage of 0.016%, 0.107%, 0.006% and 0.008%.
