Abstract

This paper discusses about the use of Kambang Iwak Besak Park (KIBP) as a public space, whether it is effective or not. The availability of public spaces, specially KIBP in Palembang is very important in urban life. Public space can function, in order to lower down the life tension. Public spaces also can help serving as media of relaxation, social interaction and social gathering. This is a quantitative research. The effective use of KIBP studied is measured with four parameters. They are accessibility, comfort, safety and appropriate designation. The population is all visitors of (KIBP) at the time of data collection. The sample is 10 percent of the visitors who can be met at the time of data collection. When the data were collected, the visitor of KIBP amount 1.200 people. So, the sample is 120 visitors. Data collection techniques are questionnaire spreading, observation, and in depth interview. Then, the collected data have been analyzed descriptively. The result showed that, the use of KIBP, has been effective. Nevertheless, some adaptabilities should be taken for more satisfying results.
