Abstract

Musi Estuary is an estuary of eight major tributaries whose conditions are influenced by natural factors and human activities, thus affecting one of the organisms that live in it, namely zooplankton. The purpose of this research was to analyse the abundance and zooplankton community index, the condition of the Musi estuary and the relationship of aquatic environmental parameters with the abundance and index of zooplankton communities in the Musi river estuary. The research was conducted in November 2018, sampling and measurements were carried out at 9 different station points taken vertically and horizontally. Sampling included zooplankton water samples, for the measurement of the physical chemistry parameters of the waters including temperature, salinity, pH, DO, current and brightness, while the linkage of the zooplankton community to chemical physics parameters was processed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Zooplankton found when sampling vertically and horizontally consists of 15-17 taxa with abundance of zooplankton when sampling vertically and horizontally almost the same, ranging from 11-133 ind/L. The zooplankton community index when sampling vertically and horizontally show the dominant value of the medium for the diversity index (H’), high for uniformity (E) and low for dominance (C). Water conditions in general are still decent or support the survival of zooplankton. The relationship between enviromental parameters with abundance and zooplankton community index using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), shows variables that are not a feature when sampling vertically namely diversity, uniformity, salinity and flow velocity, whereas horizontally that is pH and current velocity.
