Abstract
One of the mining activities in PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (PT. KPC) is overburdens removal. The methods to remove the overburdens are drilling and blasting. These days, there are so many improvements and innovations in blasting methods to efficient the use of the explosives, still with a good blast result or even better. One of those methods is air deck. There are some types of air deck based on its location in blast hole. Top air deck is one type of the air deck method, which is placed the air deck column in the top area of the blast hole. The implementation of top air deck is a first trial that will apply in Panel 3 Pit Pinang South, PT. KPC and the suitable air deck factor (ADL) to knows the air deck lengths (ADL) is not found yet. This research will analyze the suitable air deck factor and air deck length in Panel 3 Pit Pinang South and the quality of the results of top air deck blasting method toward fragmentation, digging times and cycle times of the excavator and powder factor values. The methods and steps in this research is consist of determine the problems, literature’s references, field’s observation, collecting data, data analysis, data processing, simulation and trial, then the conclusions. The data that will analyze is theory of air deck, the relation between RMR and ADF to find the suitable ADL, then do the trials to see the results. RMR value of Panel 3 Pit Pinang South is in range of 49 – 62. From those RMR value, suitable ADF is about 0.18 – 0.115 with average ADF is 0.15. ADL for blast holes with 7 – 12 meters depth are 0,5 – 1 meters . Fragmentation result of the first trial in PN22WK30, the percentage of size <30 cm passing in trial’s block is 87,26 % which bigger than non TAD’s block that is 81,38 %. Passing of fragmentation <30cm in second trial of trial’s block is bigger than non TAD’s block, that is 88,46 % and 87,65 %. The broken of PN22WK30 was digging by Hitachi EX3600B, the digging time in the TAD’s block is 10,2 s and cycle time is 32,8 s, while digging time in tter than the trial’s block, that is 9,92 s, but the cycle time non TAD’s block is 11,1 s and cycle time is 34 s. The broken of the PN08WK32 was digging by Liebherr R996 which has digging time in TAD’s block is 10,2 s and cycle time is 33,8 s, while non TAD’s block has digging time as 11,9 s and cycle time as 35,9 s. xi Universitas Sriwijaya The explosives saving if assume that once blasting has hole depths as 11 m and 100 holes, with top air deck methods could saving as Rp 250.950.000 a month.
