Abstract
HostPlants Species and Distribution of Virus Diseases Carried by Insect Vector (Aphis gossypii)in Fresh Swamp and Hightands of South Sumatra. This reasearch was done to identity host plants of Aphis gossypii (Glover) (Homoptera : Aphididae), and to determine distribution of virus diseases carried by the aphid. Survey was carried out at 11 vegetable centres in south sumatera and identification was done in laboratory. The result showed that A. gassypii could attack 33 species host plants from 14 families, among them there were 23 species of weid, d 6e rest species were crops. The crops attacked were Capsicum annuum, Solanum fugena, Capsicum frutescens, Solanum nigrum, Solanum tuberosum, Apium graveolens, Sechium edule, Cucurbito moschota, Cucumis sativus, Momordica charantia, and Colocasia esculentum. Curly and mosaic virus were found in almost all vegetables centers in South sumatera especially in the centers of the lowland vegetables. Host plants that attacked by curly virus reached 60%, while the mosaic virus reached 20%. Plants that were attacked by the virus were C annuum, C. moschata, C. sativus, S. tuberostum, dan A. groveolens, S. torvum, M. micranta E. odoratuw, A. conyzoides, E. valerianfolio, Bidens sp., A. olerocea, E. hirta, C. hirtus and C. nudiflora
