Abstract

Paving block is one of the options in the construction of structures that are commonly used for streets, parking place, pedestrian, park and others. In this researeh will be diseussed effect than the addition of sawdust in paving block, whether it has any influence on the compressive strength, bulk density, and water absorption. Here the addition of sawdust are 10%, 15%, 20%, and 30% to weight of the sand and addition of fly ash are 15% to weight of cement. The results of this researeh showed, that the addition of sawdust and fly ash to the paving block, resulting in a decrease in the compressive strength of paving block. Paving block with 10% sawdust has the highest compressive strength rather than 15%, 20%, and 30%. Paving block with 10% sawdust has compressive strength of 14,417 Mpa using quartz sand and 11,750 Mpa using Talang Balai sand at the age of 28 days. The highest decrease of bulk density was 30% sawdust of 1,341 gr/cc decrease 53% using quartz sand and 1,302 gr/cc decrease 57% using Talang Balai sand at the age of 28 days. The addition of 10% sawdust to the paving block have lowest water absorption of 5,959% using quartz sand and 6,357% using Talang Balai sand.
