Abstract

Rice Varieties Response to the Treatments of Nitrogen at Seedling Stage and Silica from Coal Ash. The experiment conducted in the green house using randomized block design was aimed to find out the effect of nitrogen at seedling stage and silica from coal ash to the growth and production of Si Putih, IR 42 and Kapuas rice varieties. There were 24 units of 10 kg plastic polybag experiment and the fresh mater swamp soil from Palembang was used. Nitrogen concentrations used at seedling stage were 0 and 3,250 ppm. The treatments of silica from ash coal consist of 0, 1,200, 1,800, and 2,400 kg ha-1. The result showed that 3,250 ppm N and the present of silica could improve the agronomic character of varieties tested. The three varieties gave different agronomic responses to the above treatments. The treatment of silica from coal ash could increase tiller number, but this phenomena did not happen to IR 42 and Kapuas varieties with the presence of high nitrogen treatment at seedling stage. This could be because of the decreasing of tiller number growth rate. The combination of nitrogen and silica gave an effect to the panicle number of Si Putih, but these treatments did not effect the grain number per panicle. Moreover, the combination of nitrogen treatment at 3,250 ppm and coal ash at 1,800 kg ha-1 gave higher grain per plant for Si Putih, however the increasing of grain per plant for IR 42 was happen to the treatment of no nitrogen and coal ash at 1,800 kg ha-1. The grain per plant of Kapuas did not give its response to the above treatments. Key words: Rice,Fresh water swamp, Nitrogen, Silica.
