Abstract

Apartment units (Rusun) are multi-storey buildings that are divided into functionally structured parts in horizontal and vertical directions and one of the tall buildings that have the potential for fires to occur. This indicates that the flats must have good fire emergency response procedures, especially those who live there, researchers want to know a description of the knowledge and attitudes related to fire emergency response conditions for rusun’s residents of Rusun 24 Ilir Palembang. The purpose of this study was to find out how the description of knowledge and attitudes related to fire emergency response among residents of the rusun 24 Ilir Palembang in 2021. The research design used in this study was a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews with informants consisting of three people, namely the head of the RT, an administrator of the flat, and a resident of the rusun 24 Ilir Palembang. The results showed that the head of the RT knew about the importance of fire emergency response facilities and infrastructure, but the Emergency Response Team had not yet been formed. Rusun’s management also has knowledge about the importance of fire emergency response. This is almost the same as the rusun’s residents of 24 Ilir Palembang who already know the importance of fire emergency response, but differ in their knowledge of the causes of the fire hotspots because there are still many residents who burn waste in the 24 Ilir Palembang rusun area. While regarding the attitude of fire emergency response, the three respondents showed a supportive attitude when evaluating after a fire occurred by being careful about potential fire hazards, not panicking in the event of a fire, following fire evacuation instructions as soon as possible when implemented. The researcher concluded that the knowledge of the head of the RT and the administrator of the flat had the same level of knowledge and was slightly different from that of the workers of the rusun 24 Ilir Palembang, while regarding the third attitude, they had a supportive attitude regarding the emergency fire situation. The researcher suggests that the Flats 24 Ilir Palembang should consult with K3 experts and immediately form an ERT (Emergency Response Team), and the residents of the flats should not burn garbage in the rusun area.
