Abstract

M. FACHRURROZI R, Palatability Rate of Weeds consumed by Bali Cattle grazed in Oil Palm Plantations at Sriwijaya University (Supervised by ARMINA FARIANI) The presence of weeds in oil palm plantations negatively affects oil palm plants, causing competition between weeds and oil palm. The use of plantation weeds as a substitute for forage is one of the efforts to overcome these problems, considering the large potential of plantation weeds as a substitute for the forage in line with the increasingly development of plantation land in South Sumatra. Bali cattle is one of the native cattle of Indonesia which is the result of direct domestication from wild Banteng. Bali cattle are developed, utilized and preserved as native livestock resources that have certain characteristics and have the ability to develop well in various environments in Indonesia. This research was conducted using the Random sampling method, by looking at the level of palatability of livestock in a random way according to what the livestock ate in the field. Forage species found in oil palm plantations of Sriwijaya Indralaya University which consist of 57 species. The preferred weeds of cattle are 21 species and the top 6 palatability levels that have an average preference of many cattle. Weed species with a very high palatability rate in oil palm plantations at Sriwijaya University are Vitaria ensiformis, Davallia trichomanoides, Nephrolepis biserrata, Boreria alata, Euphorbia prostrata and Iris nortania. Keywords: Palatability, Oil palm plantation, Forage potential and Bali cattle.
