Abstract

The purpose of this research were to (1) analyze the level of welfare of independent smallholders when the price of fresh fruit bunch decreased in Muara Lakitan Village, Musi Rawas Regency, and (2) describe and assess the survival strategies carried out by independent smallholders when the price of fresh fruit bunch decreased in Muara Lakitan Village, Musi Rawas Regency. This research was conducted in the Muara Lakitan Village, Musi Rawas Regency in October 2022 using a survey method. Respondents consisted of 60 farmers who were taken purposively. The results showed that independent smallholders in Muara Lakitan Village were classified as not properous with the Farmer’s Household Income Exchange Rate (NTPRP) of 0,96 or < 1. This means that independent smallholders in this village have not been able to meet their needs, both for agricultural businesses or non-agricultural businesses, because the income received was less than the expenditure of the farmers. The survival strategy carried out by independent smallholders in the Muara lakitan village when price of fresh fruit bunches decreased included an active strategies, passive strategies, and a network strategies. But, the strategy most used by independent smallholders was an active strategy with an average total score of 4,33 which included non farming strategies and involving family members to work strategies.
