Abstract

The experiment was conducted in Phytopathological Laboratory and Greenhouse, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University The objective of the research was to know the ability of isolates Penicillium as plant growth promotion fungi isolated from swampy soil against damping-off in pepper seedling caused by Rhizoctonia solani Khun. The results showed that isolates of Penicillium provided percentage suppressing of pre-emergence damping-off, post-emergence damping-off and disease severity ranged from 0-82,01%; 33,33-100%; and 0-77,47% respectively. Isolates of Penicillium could also increase plant length and fres weight by 57,88% and 72,84%, respectively. These results indicate that isolates of Penicillium have a great potential as biocontrol agenst against damping-off in pepper seedling caused by Rhizoctonia solani Khun planted in swampy soil.
