Abstract
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the important industrial crops and plays a role in national development. Stem rot disease caused by the fungus G. boninense is a major problem in oil palm cultivation in Southeast Asia. The fungus Trichoderma pseudokoningii is a type of fungus that has been widely tested as an antagonist funguson several pathogenic fungi including G. boninense which causes stem rot disease of oil palm plants. This research was conducted with the aim of 1) determining the in vitro efficacy of the Trichoderma spp. in suppressing the fungus G. boninense, 2) Determine the efficacy of the Trichoderma spp. in treating initial infection of base stem rot disease in oil palm plants, 3) Determining the efficacy of the concentration of the fungus formulation Trichoderma spp. in the treatment of advanced infection of stem rot disease in oil palm seedlings. This research was conducted with three experiments, the first was an in vitro experiment then the second and third experiments were conducted in a greenhouse, the in vitro experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment used is; 1) 2.5% formulation containing Trichoderma spp.(Tr); 2) 0.25% formulation of the fungus Trichoderma spp.(Tr); 3) 0.25% hexaconazole fungicide; and 4) control. The first greenhouse experiment used a 2×3 completely randomized factorial design (RALF) with separate control treatments. The first factor was the concentration of the formulation which consisted of two levels, namely 1) concentration of 2.5% and 2) 0.25% Tr, the second factor consisted of three levels of application time, namely 1) one and three months; 2) two and four months, and 3) one, two, three, and four months after inoculation. Two separate treatments were inoculated control and 0.25% hexaconazole fungicide control. The second greenhouse experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 5 groups. The treatments are: 1) 2.5% Tr; 2) 0.25% Tr; 3) 0.25% hexaconazole fungicide; and 4) control. The test plants were oil palm seedlings after being inoculated for eleven months. The results showed that the Trichoderma spp. formulation treatment. with a concentrationbof 2.5% was proven to suppress the growth of the fungus Ganoderma boninse in in vitro tests and could not suppress the growth of the fungus with a concentration of 0.25%. The results of in planta observation of oil palm plants treated with antagonistic fungi (Trichoderma spp.) with a concentration of 2.5% showed that the suppression of base rot disease caused by the fungus G. boninense was quite high, reaching 62.4% in the initial infected plants. Whereas the Trichoderma formulation treatment with a concentration of 2.5% only suppressed 27.9% of the development of advanced infection of the base of the stem rot disease. This shows that the Trichoderma formulation can treat stem rot disease in oil palm caused by the fungus Ganoderma boninense when used at high concentrations.
