Abstract

Rose cut flower is placed as the main flower. Vase life is an important factor in determining the market value of cut flowers. The quality of cut flowers can decline within a few days after harvested if left alone. To maintain the freshness of cut flowers, additional preservative solutions are needed. The use of everyday materials around us can be an economical alternative. This study used roses (Rosa sp.) as cut flowers. With the addition of substrate and antimicrobial substances from the freshening solution, it will be able to keep flower fresh for a longer time. This study aims to determine the solution concentration of sugar, basil extract and bilimbi extract that is suitable for cut roses. This study used Random Group Design (RAK). The concentrations were P0 control treatment with Aquades, then P1 treatment with 1% sugar solution and 15% basil extract, P2 treatment with 1% sugar solution and 25% basil extract, P3 treatment with 1% sugar solution and 12.5% bilimbi extract, and P4 treatment with 1% sugar solution and 15% bilimbi extract. The research was carried out until the flowers fell off and when rot occurred at the base of the stem, they were cut. The results showed that P3 which is the preservative solution with a composition of 1% sugar solution and 12.5% bilimbi extract gave the best freshness time for roses, up to 20 days.
