Abstract

The research area is located in Tungku Jaya Village and its surroundings, Sosoh Buay Rayap District, Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra Province. This research focuses on analyzing the potential of source rock and depositional environment in the Muaraenim Formation (Tmpm). This study used field observation methods, field data collection, field data processing through studio work, laboratory analysis in the form of Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Rock Eval Pyrolysis (REP) and Vitrinite Reflectance (VR) analysis and report preparation. Based on previous research and data on vitrinite reflectance analysis, it shows that the depositional environment of the Muaraenim Formation (Tmpm) is in a deltaic environment. From the geochemical analysis data carried out on seven rock samples (BB – 1, BB – 2, BB – 3, BB – 4, BB – 5, BB – 6, and BB – 7) the percentage of TOC content in the rock was 32.98 % - 57.85% indicates "Special" rock organic material richness. Rock Eval Pyrolysis analysis shows that the rock samples have good potential as source rock for producing hydrocarbons. The rock sample data shows a Tmax value of 404°C – 418°C and a Ro value of <0.6 so that the maturity level of the rock is in the immature phase. The value of the hydrogen index (HI) of the rock samples is in the range of 90 – 143, indicating a tendency for type III kerogen which has the potential to produce gaseous hydrocarbons.
