Abstract

Construction over soft peat soil has many problems. Therefore, research were required to improve soil bearing capacity. Peat Soil improvement is very expensive. This research aims to know the increasing of soil bearing capacity with woven bamboo and grid bamboo reinforcement with square footing. To get the value of the bearing capacity, we did research about bearing capacity with reinforcement. The variation of the research are depth and number of reinforcement ’s layer. The research was conducted in a laboratory scale. Bearing capacity values obtained from the loading test and graph of load and settlement relationship. While ratio of the bearing capacity (BCR) obtained from the comparison between ultimate bearing capacity of the soil with reinforcement variation and ultimate bearing capacity of the soil without reinforcement. Variations reinforcement grid bamboo and woven bamboo are in dept as separator between peat soil and sand, wide vertical spacing and stress distribution in soil due to surface loads. Grid bamboo arranged paralel by the certain of spacing, and then the sheet of woven lay on the grid bamboo. Research result that reinforcement combination 0,25B; 0,5B; and IB are 351.8%, 327,2%, and 302,6%. The closer of distance between basic foundation and reinforcement and more number of reinforcement ’s layer will increase the bearing capacity of soil.
