Abstract
Rivers as surface water widely used for raw water sources. The quality of river is very important in terms of utilization of water resources. The quality of river many has decreased because a lot of dissolved solids contained in the water, so that required the process of water treatment using coagulant can be maintain the water quality. Alum coagulant for water purification is widely used because it is easy to obtain and relatively inexpensive, but it is made of Chemicals, therefore it should be taken to look for other coagulants that are environmentally friendly, natural and easy to use in the water treatment process. This final aim to determine the effect of powdered moringa oleifera in water to pH parameters. Replacement coagulants research needs to be done to determine the optimum dose to be used for water treatment. Water purification process is carried out with the jar test trials and in open channels. Jar test is used to determine the optimum dosage of Moringa oleifera solution. Jar test were carried out with rapid stirring at 150 rpm for 3 minutes and slow stirring 75 rpm for 5 minutes. In the design of water treatment in open channel consists of a stream of intake, tub discharge controller is equipped with a V-notch, coagulation unit, flocculation and sedimentation unit. The parameters analyzed are pH and temperature. Requirements for water quality parameters measured, refer to the KepMenKes RI, No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 . Results of jar test s conducted research obtained the optimum dose of moringa oleifera solution is 4 ml dose and a residence time of25 minutes pH 5.84 and temperature 27,6°C. Injection of Moringa oleifera coagulants in water have affect pH and turbidity value of water.
