Abstract

This research aims to determine the professionalism of civil personnel in the regional office of the Ministry of Religion Affairs in the province of South Sumatra. The study investigates a public section in the Ministry of Religion Affairs Sumsel. This research is motivated by problems indicating that some services are slow progress so that the needed services are not completed on time and there is no confirmation when these services will be completed. The research uses Sedarmayanti’s theory of work professionalism through four dimensions: competence, effectiveness, efficiency, and responsibility. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that it has not been professional or achieved because of the four dimensions studied, only one dimension has been achieved in its implementation, so it is not professional. On the dimensions of employee competence, good public speaking skills and understanding of their duties have been professional. The dimension of effectiveness has not been professional because of the quantity of work whose service completion is not bound by standard operating procedure and the quality of employees who often delay work and are often not in the office during working hours. The dimension of efficiency has not been professional where service completion is not timely. The dimension of responsibility has not been professional because employees are slow to complete their duties and there is no confirmation when the service is finished. Employees should increase professionalism in carry ing out public services.
