Abstract

An oral presentation is one form of promoting students'' speaking skills. The student's oral presentations can enhance speaking skills in English classrooms since the learners can listen to others'' presentations and acquire English structures used in their oral presentations. Even with this, an oral presentation is a challenging technique that students can do. The researcher discovered that fourth-semester English Education students at Sriwijaya University still faced many difficulties and obstacles in oral presentations. Regarding this problem, the researchers want to find the difficulties encountered by fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University and the solutions to those difficulties. This study uses a qualitative research design by making observations to measure how well fourth-semester English education students at Sriwijaya University make oral presentations and use interviews to find difficulties and solutions to these difficulties. The results of the first observation (81.3%) and second (61.5%) show that most students are in a good category. In the third observation, students experience rapid improvement, where most are in the excellent category (57.1%). Even so, students experience difficulties in several categories in oral presentations, namely anxiety and confidence, topic, vocabulary, grammar, visual aids, time management, eye contact, and question. However, the students have solutions to handle these difficulties. Through this research, the researcher hopes English education students of Sriwijaya can use the study results to see their oral presentation performance, whether they need improvement, fair, good, or excellent in doing an oral presentation. In addition, through the results of this study, students can avoid the difficulties experienced when doing oral presentations and using existing solutions to solve the difficulties.
