Abstract

This study aims to understand the difference of level of belief in a just world in citizens of Palembang who blame and do not blame the victim in sexual assault case. The hypothesis of this study is that there is a difference of level of belief in a just world in citizens of Palembang who blame and do not blame the victim in sexual assault case. The subjects of this study were the citizens of Palembang. The sample was 100 respondents and try out sample was 76 respondents. This study used accidental sampling technique. The instruments used on this study were belief in a just world scale based on Rubin and Peplau (1975) theory and a sexual assault news article. This study used Independent Sample T-Test to analyze the data. The result showed that there is a significant difference of level of belief in a just world based on victim blaming as proven by p<0,05. Therefore, the proposed hypothesis is accepted.
