Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of storage site and period of acacia (Acacia mangium L.) particle board using urea formaldehyde adhesive on mechanical properties and rate of changes. The research was conducted at Energy and Electrification Laboratory, Agricultural Technology Department, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Engineering Faculty, Sriwijaya University from the storage time December 2017 until March 2018. This research used Factorial Random Block Design (FRBD) which consists of two treatment factors, each with two treatment levels and five treatment levels. Each combination has done three times. The first factors were the storage place inside and outside the room. The second factors were : 0 weeks, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks. The determined parameters were modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), and internal bond. The results showed that storage site had significant effect on MOR, MOE, and internal bond. Storage period had significant effect on MOR, MOE, and internal bond. The interactions between storage site and period had not significant effect on MOR, MOE, and internal bond. The rate of change of mechanical properties of acacia particle board with urea formaldehyde adhesive had MOR, MOE, and internal bond in the room lower than outdoors. The rate of decrease in the room were respectively: 0.6226 kgf cm-2 per week; 131.28 kgf cm-2 per week; and 0.0329 kgf cm-2 per week and the rate of decrease at outdoor were respectively: 0.8177 kgf cm-2 per week; 167.13 kgf cm-2 per week; and 0.0401 kgf cm-2 per week.
