Abstract

Banyuasin estuaries receive nutrient from many activities around the waters and indirectly will affect the growth of phytoplankton which is reflected by the concentration of chlorophyll-a in waters. The purposes of this study were to analyze the concentration of chlorophyll- a and nutrients (nitrate and phospate), then to determine the relation between them and environmental parameters in Banyuasin estuary. The study was conducted on July 2013 at high and low tide waters condition. Sampling process using purposive sampling method. The result distribution of chlorophyll-a, nutriens and environmental parameters were processed using surfer software 10.0 and the influence of environmental parameters on chlorophyll-a were processed with PCA methode using Statistica software 8.0. The result of this study show that at high and low tide condition, the range of values concentration of chlorophyll-a from 4.41 to 55.01 mg/m3. Nitrate concentrations ranged from 0.94 to 34.44 mg/l. Fosfat concentrations ranged from 0.08 to 0.64 mg/l. Principal componen analysis showed that nutrients (nitrat and phospate) affect the concentration of chlorophyll-a both at high and low tide, with eigenvallue 3.04 (nitrate) and 2.19 (phospate) at high tide then 4.29 (nitrate) and 1.27(phospate) at low tide. Generally, the concentration of chlorophyll-a and nutrients will be more commonly found in areas near the mainland that gave a lot input of nutrients. Environmental factors that affect the concentration of chlorophyll-a were nitrate, phospate, brightness, temperature, DO, and flow velocity
