Abstract

In this digitalization era, various activities are required to use Visual Display Terminal (VDT). Students intensively use the Visual Display Terminal (VDT) as a medium for carrying out activities, especially during the post-pandemic period, students still have to conduct lectures using the hybrid method. The complaints of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) felt by students indicate a high potential. The high potential for Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) complaints can be caused by unsafe action behavior using the Visual Display Terminal (VDT). This study aims to analyze the relationship between the unsafe action of using Visual Display Terminal (VDT) and Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) complaints among students of the undergraduate student of Public Health Programme Class of 2019-2021 Faculty of Public Health Sriwijaya University. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study design. The population of this study were students of the Public Health Study Program (S1) class of 2019 - 2021 with a sample of 147 students and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square statistical test. The results showed that 76.9% of students experienced complaints of Computer Vision Syndrome, variable posture (p-value = 0.000), screen distance (p-value = 0.000), duration (p-value = 0.001), brightness (p-value = 0.032), and eye rest (p-value = 0.021) has a relationship with Complaints of Computer Vision Syndrome. Glasses use variable (p-value = 0.172) has no relationship with Computer Vision Syndrome complaints. Students are advised to use the Visual Display Terminal with good posture, adjust the height of the monitor or chair, and apply eye rest behavior using the 20-20-20 technique.
