Abstract
Mangrove Avicennia marina and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza have known as antibacterial bioactive compounds. Samples of A. marina were taken from Payung Island and B. gymnorrhiza from Tanjung Api-Api area, Banyuasin District. The purposes of this study were to determine the potential of bioactive compound as antibacterial from mangrove species. This research method included sampling mangrove parts of leaves, stems and roots, drying and grinding, maceration and extraction used methanol solvent, antibacterial bioactivity test data analysis using Honestly Significant Difference (HSD). The results showed that stem of A. marina has the highest antibacterial bioactivity for the bacteria E. coli and were significantly different about 25.28 ± 0.73 mm, while the lowest about 7,56 ± 0.37 mm for S. aureus bacteria and not significantly different. The bioactivity of B. gymnorrhiza for E. coli was 7,88 ± 2.08 to 8.50 ± 1.14 mm, and only 6.16 ± 0.07 mm for S. aureus. The both extracts showed antibacterial activities of mangrove species highest on the A. marina compared to B. gymnoorh
