Abstract

One of the alternative technologies exploiting the non-petroleum resources to be converted to become oil is Coal Liquefaction technology. Chemically, coal liquefaction process changes the complex compounds of coal hydrocarbon through thermal decomposition, so the hydrogen ratio and its carbon are almost similar to the petroleum hydrocarbon compounds. The coal consists of heteroatom compounds having the contents of sulphur, nitrogen, oxygen and inorganic matters. These kinds of impurities reduce the quality of synthetic oil products of coal liquefaction process. Therefore, it is necessary to perform the hydro-treatment process to remove the impurities. This paper presents the factors that influence the performance of hydro-treatment process, so the quality of the synthetic oil products fulfills the standard and specification of product needed.
