Abstract
The aims of this research was to: (1) Identify interpersonal communication activities, group and mass media, (2) Analyze the empowerment of women farmers group in the rice farming activities, (3) analyze the correlation of communication activities with the empowerment of women farmers group. The research conducted in South Sumatra province, there were Banyuasin District, Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) and Komering Ogan Ilir (OKI). The sample was taken purposively of women farmers group in empowerment program on rice farming management. Each district will be taken 2 districts, each district will be taken 2 village. Each village sample taken 20 people as respondents, so there were 240 respondent. The method of research is done by case study methods to the selected farmers' group. This study consists of two free variables (independent variables) that is communication activities (X1). another variables (dependent variables) is empowerment of women farmers in rice farming activities (Y). The data collected is the primary data and data secondary. Primary data is data obtained by direct interviews with quessioner and continued with fiel observation. Secondary data obtained from related agencies, district offices and village office in addition to the literature study. Data obtained from the treated field tabulation and statistical analysis followed by Spearman correlation. The results showed that (1) Communication activities are women farmers tend to be seen from interpersonal communication tends to be high to make the interaction more than 3 sources, using other media and in speeches and discussions. Tend to group participation where women farmers are always participated, either in present or make a donation, with intensity more than once, sometimes in the opinion given but not followed-up. Mass media tend influence so women farmers obtain information from radio and television, the intensity of more than 3 hours/week with some material from rice farming. (2) Empowerment of women farmers in rice farming tend to be high where the level of knowledge within the category if being, attitudes and skills, including the high category. (3) Communication activity seen from participation in the group associated with the real empowerment of women farmers in each district. Empowerment of women farmers in the Easterm District and OIC OKU only real contact with rice farming income.
