Abstract

Intercalation of organometallic compounds [Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4)] in the activated kaolin with various concentrations of 1%, 5%, 10% and 15% H2SO4 have been performed. The results of intercalated kaolin were characterized using FT-IR spectrophotometry and XRD analysis. Futher optimum intercalation results of the research using FT-IR spectrophotometer did not show optimal intercalation process for each concentration. Advanced characterization using XRD showed optimal process on the use of kaolin acidification result with 10% of H2SO4 with a diffraction angel shift (2ϴ) of 25o. The process of adsorption of kaolin intercalated with organometallic compound [Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4)] show a large adsorption rate (k) of 0.043 min-1, the largest adsorption capacity (Qe) at 70 oC at 108.0 mg.g-1. The greates adsorption energy (E) at 70 oC is 9.663 kJ/mol. The enthalpy value (ΔH) decreases with increasing concentration of procion red dye. The lowest entropy (ΔS) value at the procion red concentration of 100 mg/L was 2.818446 J/mol, The effect of pH on adsorption at pH 5 showed the largest amount of procion red adsorbed of 10.57 mg/L.
