Abstract

Slope stability is an important factor in the sustainability of the mining process, a stable slope will reduce potential losses due to cladding. A waste dump/disposal area is an area in an open pit mining operation that is used as a place to dispose of low-grade material and/or non-ore materials such as overburden and interburden. The east block heap slope of the Muara Tiga Besar Utara is a hoarding area by the in-pit dump method with a slope length of 140, a slope height ranging from 43 - 48 meters, and the overall angle is 17 ° - 19 °, type of soil on the heap slope is soil with a cohesion value ranging from 21.5 - 25.9, the shear angle in 11.3 - 14.21, and the unit weight of 16.95 - 17.98, with the largest FK which is 1.22 and the smallest FK 1.049 In this category, the slope is included in critical conditions because the safety factor value shows a number in the range of 1.04 - 1.22. The XRF test results show clay levels with the lowest cohesion values containing high levels of Fe (iron), the presence of iron elements is a indicator that the type of clay minerals contained is montmorillonite, Montmorillonite is a type of clay mineral with a high ability to expand but has low permeability so that bound water is difficult to escape or dry
