Abstract

The School Dental Health (UKGS) is one of the Community Health Efforts (UKM) carried out in the form of promotive, preventive, and curative which aims to improve the dental and oral health status of school children in junior schools. In 2015, dental and oral health coverage rate was 17.70% while the minimum coverage set by the OKI District Health Office was 80%. The purpose of this study was to analize the factors that affect the performance of the School Dental Health program in the working area of the Kutaraya Health Center. This research has used qualitative research. Data was obtained through the results of in-depth interviews, observations, and document review. Analysis of the data used in this research is Content Analysis. Triangulation used in this study is a triangulation of sources, methods and theories. The subjects of the study were 3 Puskesmas staff consisted of 1 dentist and 2 dental nurses and the teacher in charge of UKGS totaling 4 people from 4 different schools. The results of the study showed that some UKGS activities such as referral activities, guidance for UKGS teachers and small doctors, giving health education especially about oral health had not been carried out influenced by UKGS teacher officers not understanding their role as UKGS officers, low motivation due to lack of implementation of programs and sanctions imposed and still limited and incomplete facilities supporting activities such as referral forms, tools and materials, providing actions and lack of funds greatly affect the implementation of activities. Overall, the activities carried out by the Puskesmas staff have been carried out including dental and oral examination as well as counseling and brushing teeth together, but activities carried out by or involving school UKGS officers have not run optimally such as the implementation of referrals and health education. Recommendation for the Puskesmas expected to work with the Health Office to conduct training, submit funding for activities, optimize collaborate between Puskesmas, Schools, Health Offices, Education Offices and local government and complete several administrations for the implementation of activities such as referral forms.
