Abstract

This research is aimed to knowing the motivation of student on joining Pencak Silat martial arts in Sriwijaya University. The type of this research is quantitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique that is used is by distributing questionnaires and documentation. The research focused on knowing where do the motivation of student in joining Pencak Silat come from, is it intrinsic or extrinsic. The participants of this study were 19 respondents, which is participants (siswa) Pencak Silat PSHT who had the criteria of student status and were active in training with percentage analyzing. The results of the research that have been carried out on the aspects of the participant’s participation in Pencak Silat martial art is 63% of students have the motivation to master Pencak Silat martial art, which means it shows that their motivation in joining Pencak Silat is categorized high, because the motivation come from within theirselves and also supported by their test scores of level upsurge get a good predicate. As for the inhibiting factor that found doesn’t really affect the implementation of training activities that makes the interest and enthusiasm of participant to training down.
