Abstract
One of the pollutants in the air is PM10. The existence of contamination, dust particles in the atmosphere cause health problems for people who exposed, one of the problems is an upper respiratory infection (ISPA). This study aims to determine the correlation between the particulate matter (PM10) levels of classroom air with ISPA in students of SD Negeri 02 Indralaya Utara. This research was descriptive analytic with cross sectional approach. These samples included 119 respondents. Environmental sampling technique used purposive sampling and sampling technique for humans used proportional random. Analysis technique of univariate and bivariate used chi square and presented in tables and narrative. Data of PM10 concentrations of the classrooms and the other variables obtained through the measurement and interview used a questionnaire. The results showed that the variables associated with ISPA in students were PM10 (PR = 1.556; 95% CI: 1.220 to 1.984), temperature (PR = 2.629; 95% CI: 1.576 to 4.387), humidity (PR = 2.629; 95 % CI: 1.576 to 4.387), and duration of exposure (PR = 3.222; 95% CI: 1.779 to 5.837). The variables which have no correlation were residential density (PR = 0.783; 95% CI: 0.647 to 0.946), nutritional status (PR = 1.154; 95% CI: 0.935 to 1.423), and gender (PR = 0.983; 95% CI: 0.794 to 1.217). It was concluded that environmental factors of schools like PM10 concentration, temperature, humidity and host factor, which was duration of exposure had a significant correlation with the occurrence of ISPA in SD Negeri 02 Indralaya Utara. Suggestions in this study is to maximize the prevention efforts of ISPA and of environmental factors control.
