Abstract

PHOTODEGRADATION OF CONGO RED DYES USING NiFe2O4 NANOMAGNETIC AND THE EFFECT OF ADDING H2O2 Handayani Citra Pratiwi : Supervised by Fahma Riyanti, M.Si dan Nova Yuliasari, M.Si Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University xvii + 62 pages, 11 tables, 16 pictures, 13 attachments Synthesis of NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic have been done using coprecipitation method. NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic was applied to degradation of congo red dyes. The NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic was characterized using XRD analysis, SEM-EDS and VSM. Characterization of XRD NiFe2O4 nanomagnetics show the angle position of 2θ at 30.98˚; 35.12˚; 38.06˚; 44.06˚; 52.96˚; 57.28˚; 62.80˚. Characterization of SEM-EDS NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic showed a smooth, porous and uniform round shape with constituent elements C, O, Fe and Ni. Characterization of VSM NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic showed the saturation magnetization value of 47.32 emu/g. Characterization result using XRD, SEM-EDS and VSM showed that the synthesis of NiFe2O4 nanomagnetics was successfully done. NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic have a pHpzc value at pH 7. The addition of H2O2 produces hydroxyl radicals is very reactive it can increase effectiveness in photodegradation process. The best condition the effectiveness of decreasing the concentration of congo red dyes of NiFe2O4 nanomagnetic is at congo red dyes 300 mg/L, additions H2O2 at 0.5 mL and effectiveness increased with the increase of contact time. The effectiveness of decreasing the concentration of congo red dyes from some of these factors was obtained data with UV light irradiation that is 93.67% and without UV light irradiation that is 78.87%. Data of GC-MS from the photodegradation process result, showed that congo red dyes degraded to short-chain carbon.
