Abstract
PHOTODEGRADATION OF CONGO RED DYES USING Fe3O4 NANOMAGNETIC AND THE EFFECT OF ADDING H2O2 Rahayu Sri Utari : Supervised by Fahma Riyanti, M.Si. and Nova Yuliasari, M.Si. Department Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. xvii + 60 Pages, 3 Tables, 16 Pictures, 13 Attachments Research on photodegradation of congo red dyes using Fe3O4 nanomagnetic and the effect of adding H2O2. Fe3O4 nanomagnetic was synthesized by the coprecipition method. Nanomagnetic Fe3O4 synhesis result was characterized using XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDS and VSM. XRD difractogram showed a widening peak at 2θ = 35.86° which indicates Fe3O4 is amorphous state. FTIR spectrum showed functional groups O-H, C-H, C=O, C-O, Fe-OH and Fe-O. The result of SEM-EDS analysis showed the porous surface of Fe3O4 and slightly larger particles size with constituent elements C (9.69%), O (32.83%) dan Fe (57.48%). VSM analysis obtained a hysterical curve with saturation magnetization of 63.22 emu/g. Fe3O4 nanomagnetics have a pHpzc value at 6.73. The best condition for the effectiveness of decreasing the concentration of congo red dyes occurred at a concentration of 35 mg/L, H2O2 volume of 0,1 mL and contact time of 15 minutes. Kinetics of photodegradation rate obtained R2 = 0.9619 with the rate photodegradation on UV irradiation of 0.697 s-1 and R2 = 0.9043 with the rate photodegradation without UV irradiation is 0.259 s-1. Keyword : Photdegradation, nanomagnetics, Fe3O4, congo red, H2O2. Citation : 89 (1985-2018)
