Abstract

The development of the industry continues to increase every year. Metal dust is one of the contaminants resulting from industrial activities that can cause toxicological effects on humans. CV Alumunium Mandiri Palembang is engaged in the manufacture of cauldrons and priok which produce aluminum dust contaminants. Workers who work more than 8 hours and lack of air exchange can affect lung function. This study aims to analyze the effect of aluminum dust exposure on lung function disorders in workers at CV Aluminum Mandiri Palembang. This research is a descriptive analytic study with cross sectional design. In a study using a simple random sampling method, we got 40 people. Research data obtained from the results of questionnaires, interviews, measurements of total dust levels and measurements of lung function in workers. The results showed the influence of aluminum dust exposure to impaired lung function (p = 0.029), age (p = 0.006), smoking habits (p = 0.044), smoking habits (p = 0.044), years of service (p = 0,000), and respiratory protective equipment (p = 0.037). While there was no difference between exercise habits (p = 0.718) and pulmonary disease (p = 0.087) against impaired pulmonary function. It is therefore denied that lung function problems by a lifetime, smoking habits, years of service and use of respiratory protective equipment. Suggestions in this study are to make dust levels needed for the work environment.
