Abstract
Background: Denture can be a place for plaque buildup and food scraps to facilitate C.albicans microorganisms and fungi to breed. One of the prevention can be done by soaking the denture in a commercial denture cleaning solution (polident). Other alternatives as denture cleansers can be used with daun dewa because they are known to have antifungal activity. Objective: To see the potential of daun dewa in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans on acrylic resin plates. Method: This research is a laboratory experimental research. The sample in this study used a heat polymerization acrylic resin made in the form of a test plate with a size of 10x10x1 mm for 30 pieces which were contaminated by C.albicans grouped in 6 groups, each consisted of 5 samples soaked for 30 minutes on daun dewa extracts for 2, 5%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, polident and aquades. C.albicans found in the sample was transferred to 0.9% NaCl solution and then seeded on SDA media. The number of growing C.albicans colonies is calculated in units of CFU / ml. Data were analyzed statistically by one way kruskal-wallis test and followed by post-hoc test. Results: There were significant differences in daun dewa extracts for 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%,polident and aquades in inhibiting the growth of C.albicans (P<0.05). The concentration of daun dewa extract 20% was the best in inhibiting the growth of C.albicans but not exceeding the ability of polydent to inhibit the growth of C.albicans fungus on acrylic resin plates. Conclusion: Daun dewa extracts have potential to inhibit the growth of C.albicans on acrylic resin plates.
