Abstract

Breadfruit leaf is a plant that contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, saponins, steroids and phenolic that has hypoglycemic activity. The study aims to determine the characterization of the ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruit, determine the effect of ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruit to the decrease in blood glucose levels of alloxan-induced mice, ED50 aware of variations of the ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruit and see a picture of pancreatic histopathology. Ekstak ethanol breadfruit leaves are made with a variety of doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg / kg were tested on six groups of rats wistar strain. Positive group using comparative insulin dose of 1 IU / kg, the negative control group using a suspension of Na CMC 0.5% and normal group not given treatment.6.8 ± 0.88, The average yield percentage reduction in blood glucose levels for positive control of 40.68% and the 3 treatment groups ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruit doses of 50, 100, 200 mg / kg respectively 38.78%, 39.91% and 44.92 %. This shows that the ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruit highest dose of 200 mg / kg had a better hypoglycemic activity than insulin and other doses with no significant difference (p <0.05). ED50 ethanol extract of leaves of breadfruitas big as329.341 mg / kg. Histopathological results of the pancreas showed an improvement in the group that treated with breadfruit leaf extract at doses of 50, 100 and 200mg/kgBB comparing other groups.
