Abstract

Limited economic capital, cultural capital and the existing competition between similar or different business actors are obstacles faced by every business actor including pottery business in Kelurahan Kedaton. As a form of business, pottery artisans face problems such as limited venture capital which is seen from their dropping pottery production due to lack of capital to produce the products. To overcome this problem, the pottery artisans need an effective solution to solve the problem. One of the solutions is the existence of social capital. This is because social capital has the power to help business' sustainability, for instance social capital in the form of /rust. The existence of social capital such as /rust owned by poltery artisans will form a wide network Jo help developing the business. Therefore, ii is importanJfor the pollery arlisans Jo construct social capital in the business they undertake. The social capital theory used is the theory by Robert D. Putnam using constructivism paradigm research method. Data collection was done through observation, in-depth interviews and documenlalionfrom JO informanls as source. The results show that the pollery artisan.\· possess social capilal such as trust, network, reciprocity, value and norm. Trusl is formed as an effect from honesty and munufuc:turing ofproducts according lO consumer desires. Network is formed from sentimenl Jae/or and interest faclor. Reciprocity is formed due to rewardv. Value is j(1rmed from learning process. /,astly, norm is Ji1rmed from customs and mutual agreement.
