Abstract
Background: In Indonesia, Low Birth Weight (LBW) is one of the main factor which influence a prenatal mortality and neonatal death. in 2007, there were 5,2% LBW case in South Sumatera. In 2010 (January – June) there was found a case of LBW from 30 gave birth in Simpang Timbangan health centre, while in 2009, it was found 28 LBW case from 225 birth in Payakabung health centre. The purpose of this research is to know prevalence of LBW. Mother Characteristic, Social Characteristic, Economy and find the relationship between weight gain . mother’s during pregnancy with weight gain of newborn baby. Method: The design of this research is an analytic descriptive by using cross sectional approach. The population of this research is all the mother’s pregnant who live in North Indralaya and check their pregnancy in Simpang Timbangan and Payakabung area. The total sample is 32 people. Total sampling is used for this research because of the few case. The datum were collected through interview, questioner, and a pair of scales, it was analyzed by using univariat and bivariat through Chi-Square test. Result: The result of this research shows that 21,9% participants gave birth with condition 2500 – 2999 gram (BBLK). From 2 independent variables which is analyzed, there is a variable which is in statistic has meaningful relationship to new born baby. Namely variable; weight gain of mother’s during pregnancy (pvalue: 0,005). There is no relationship between circumference upper arm scale with birth weight (pvalue:0,536). It is suggested to District Health Office of Ogan Ilir to activate Posyandu (Integrated Service Post), Poskesdes in giving promoting the health to the society’s and routine to check their pregnancy per three month.
