Abstract

Stunting is a condition where children experience impaired growth as a result of chronic nutritional problems, namely lack of nutritional intake for a long time. This study aims to compare animal and vegetable protein intake in stunted toddlers in Indonesia. A literature review was used as the method of this research by searching, summarizing, and combining the essence of several accurate and valid scientific sources. Search databases such as Google Scholar and Garuda Portal were used for literature matching the research criteria. The literature searched was limited from 2015 to 2022 with the keywords Stunting, Toddlers, Animal Protein, Vegetable Protein, Protein Intake, and Consumption Pattern both in Indonesian and English. 29 pieces of literature were selected based on full text and those that fit the criteria will be sampled. 10 literature that is relevant to this study will be sampled. The literature was analyzed using a matrix table. The results of the analysis showed no significant comparison between animal protein intake in stunted toddlers. The intake of these two proteins in stunted toddlers is still <80% and some have reached ≥80% of the Daily Value (RDA). The conclusion obtained is that there is no significant comparison between animal protein intake. Protein intake for stunting toddlers is mostly sourced from vegetable protein because of its low price, easy to obtain, area of residence, and parents income. The findings of this literature review research show that it is necessary to hold an extension program related to foods that contain high protein but at an affordable price to increase parents purchasing power for animal and vegetable protein.
