Abstract

Density is an essential factor impacting glass eel A. bicolor cultivation production. The increase in glass eel density causes competition in getting oxygen, feeds, and space movement, affecting the glass eel's physiological condition. This research aimed to determine the effect of different densities on glass eel A. bicolor production cultured in swamp water media. The study was conducted at the Aquaculture and Experimental Pond Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Fisheries Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya, and the Palembang Health Laboratory Center. The research used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments with different densities of glass eel A. bicolor, the density of glass eel A. bicolor two glass eel L-1 (P1), the density of glass eel A. bicolor three glass eel L-1 (P2), density of glass eel A. bicolor four glass eel L-1 (P3), and density of glass eel A. bicolor five glass eel L-1 (P4) with three replications. The results showed an increase in stocking density of glass eel A. bicolor up to 5 glass eel L-1 (P4) was the best treatment, resulting in a culture production 15.22 g, with a survival rate of 94.67%, absolute weight growth of 0.146 g, absolute length growth of 0.73 cm, whole glucose body fluids 95.42 mg dL-1. The water quality during rearing was still within the tolerance limits for glass eel A. bicolor culture: temperature 27.0-28.6°C, pH 7.21-7.74, dissolved oxygen 5.55-5.86 mg L-1, ammonia 0.03-0.10 mg L-1, alkalinity 30.00-53.33 mg L-1, and turbidity 0.06 NTU.
