Abstract

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the uncertain demand for rice has caused confusion among rice farmers, so rice farmers must take action to minimize losses in rice production. The objectives of this study were to 1) Calculate the income of rice farmers before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Serasan Jaya Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency; 2) Analyze the factors that affect the income of rice farmers in Serasan Jaya Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency; 3) Identify strategies for rice farmers in facing a decrease in income during the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred in Serasan Jaya Village, Sekayu District. The research was conducted in February-March in Serasan Jaya Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. The data collection method used is in the form of primary and secondary data which is then processed using Excel and SPSS. Samples were selected based on purposive sampling. The results of this study are 1) Farmers' income in Serasan Jaya Sub-District during the Covid-19 pandemic was lower than before the Covid-19 pandemic before. Where before the pandemic the farmer's income was IDR 18.920.725,00 while during the pandemic it was IDR 14.891.775,00, with a difference of IDR 4.028.950,00 or down around 27,05 percent; 2) Production result and production costs have a significant effect on rice farming income while land area and time period have no significant effect on rice income in Serasan Jaya Village; 3) Rice farmers in Serasan Jaya Sub-District carry out active strategies, passive strategies, and network strategies with an average low criteria entry strategy. The highest strategy score is found in the network strategy with moderate criteria because farmers use assistance.
