Abstract

Lack of knowledge of primary school children regarding the selection of snacks can lead to various health risks such as unhealthy snacks. To prevent the effects of consuming unhealthy snacks can be done by providing health education. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education with comic and leaflet media on students' knowledge of choosing healthy snacks at SDN 05 Indralaya and SDN 02 Indralaya Utara in 2018. The design of this study was a quasy experiment with pretest posttest control group design. The sample of this study was the fifth grade students of SDN 05 Indralaya and SDN 02 Indralaya Utara with a total of 62 students. Sampling using simple random sampling. The results showed that the average knowledge of students in the experimental group before being given intervention was 6.81 and 11.68 after being given intervention. While in the control group the average knowledge before intervention was 7.00 and after intervention was 9.97. Based on the Paired Sample T-Test test, both comics and leaflets obtained p value = <0.05 means that there is an educational effect on increasing knowledge about healthy snacks in students. Independent sample T-Test test statistics obtained p value = <0.05 means that there are significant differences in the two groups. Suggestions of this research should the schools work together with the Ogan Ilir District Health Office to be able to provide continuous and periodic health education, especially regarding the selection of healthy snacks for all students in schools to increase student knowledge.
