Abstract

Research has been carried out on Fe(III)-IIPs (Ion Imprinted Polymers) using the cooling-heating method, with a cooling process (cooling) for 1 hour and a heating process (heating) with a constant temperature of 75°C for 7 hours. The formation of Fe(III)-IIPs cavities was influenced by variations in extraction time (18 and 12 hours) and the number of repetitions performed (7 and 10 repetitions). Analysis of Fe(III)-IIPs was carried out through XRD, FTIR and SEM characterization. Apart from involving Fe(NO3)3 as the analyte, the polymerization process was carried out by involving MAA as a functional monomer, EGDMA as a cross-linker, BPO as an initiator, and chloroform as a solvent. In the same way NIP polymerization is carried out without involving analytes. The crushed Fe(III) polymer was leached repeatedly using chloroform for 16 hours, acetic acid/methanol (1:20), Methanol (3 mL) and Aquadest/Methanol (1:20). Then it was extracted using 6M HCl to lift the template from the polymer body leaving cavities that could recognize the target ion. The more iterations are done, the more voids are formed. In the XRD characterization test, the average crystal size was 0.9540 nm. Based on the FTIR characterization test, there is a 7% increase in the transmittance percentage in Fe(III)-IIPs variation II due to the extraction process on the Fe(III) polymer. Polymer morphology of Fe(III), Fe(III)-IIPs variations I and II variations on SEM-EDS imaging. The composition of Fe in Fe(III), Fe(III)-IIPs polymer variations I and II had a mass fraction of 1.28%, 0.37% and 0%, respectively. This shows that in variation II extraction the IIPs are adsorbed evenly and there are lots of Fe3+ ions lifted from the polymer body. Keywords: Fe(III)-IIPs, HCl, Extraction, XRD, FTIR, SEM
