Abstract

One of the problems faced at Indralaya is insufficient wastewater treatment. Constructed wetland is an effective and economical solution to address this problem. In artificial wetlands, liquid waste is treated naturally by utilizing plants, media and microorganisms. Constructed wetlands can be managed with controlled treatments, such as plant density adjustment. Plant density in constructed wetlands has a close relationship with the removal of waste water content. This research is a laboratory experiment that aims to analyze pollutant levels in the gray water waste of Indralaya market before and after passing through the constructed wetland, with the influence of plant density it. In this test, a test tub made of concrete structure with dimensions of 50 cm x 25 cm x 40 cm. Field scale constructed wetlands are designed using Sketch Up 2019. The initial conditions of the Indralaya Market gray water waste in laboratory testing were BOD 214 mg/L, COD 321.8 mg/L, TSS 374 mg/L and Ammonia 419.5 mg/L. The highest removal efficiency for TSS and Ammonia pollutant levels was at variations in dense plant density. Meanwhile, the highest removal of the pollutant content of BOD and COD parameters occurred at medium plant density. The density of plants in the constructed wetland has an effect on the process of removing pollutant levels contained in the gray water waste from Indralaya Market. The reduction in pollutant levels is also influenced by the types of plants used and the micro-organisms that function naturally in the constructed wetland.
