Abstract

Cooking oil is one of the basic needs of society in fulfilling their daily needs. Consumption of cooking oil is increase because almost all daily meals use cooking oil in large quantities. Repetitive use of cooking oil has an adverse effect because it can reduce nutritional value and affect food quality and cause various diseases. The aims of this research were: 1) to estimate the amount of bulk cooking oil concummed by households in Plaju Ilir Village, Plaju District, Palembang City; 2) to analyze the factors that influence the consumption of bulk cooking oil by households in Plaju Ilir Village, Plaju District, Palembang City; 3) to describe the use and handling of cooking oil waste by households in Plaju Ilir Village, Plaju District, Palembang City. The research used a survey method. This research was conducted in January 2023 with a total sample of 44 households in Plaju Ilir Village. Data were rocessed using descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicated that: 1) total consumption of bulk cooking oil in Plaju Ilir Village is 4.80 kilograms per month and the total consumption of cooking oil per capita is 0.96 kilograms per capita per month. This shows that the average consumption of cooking oil per capita per month in Plaju Ilir Village is greater than the average consumption of cooking oil per capita per month in Palembang City in 2021; 2) factors that significantly influenced the consumption of cooking oil were the number of family members and the price of cooking oil. While age, education and income have no significant effect on the consumption of bulk cooking oil in Plaju Ilir Village; 3) the average volume used in one cooking is 265 grams and the frequency of use is 2 times before the cooking oil is discarded. While the average handling of bulk cooking oil waste is directly disposed of directly into the water flow such as rivers or other sewers.
