Abstract

Wastewater is water that has been contaminated by organic and inorganic substances generated by human activities or industrial processes. Improper management of wastewater can have negative impacts on the environment. One approach to address this is by treating greywater through a constructed wetland system. A constructed wetland system is a wastewater treatment system that utilizes aquatic plants and microorganisms to break down pollutants in the wastewater. Therefore, greywater is diluted before being sent to the constructed wetland system. This study involves an experimental approach, conducting laboratory tests to determine the pollutant levels in restaurant greywater before and after entering the constructed wetland, based on the dilution effect on the wastewater. The initial conditions of the restaurant's greywater in the laboratory testing were BOD 5227 mg/L, COD 6880 mg/L, TSS 335 mg/L, and Fat and Oil 18112 mg/L. The highest efficiency in reducing pollutant levels of BOD, COD, TSS, and Fat and Oil was observed in undiluted wastewater at 67.5%. Meanwhile, the reduction in pollutant levels of wastewater with dilution showed the highest percentages for BOD, COD, and Fat and Oil at 83.1%. Dilution has an impact on the process of reducing pollutant levels in restaurant greywater. Changes and fluctuations in pollutant levels are also influenced by the vegetation and activities of microorganisms naturally occurring in the constructed wetland system.
