Abstract

The research that has been conducted is entitled "The Effect of Debate Method Application in History Subjects on Critical Thinking Ability of Grade XI Students at “UPTD SMAN 1 Sungailiat". This research uses experimental research methods using 2 classes as research samples. This research was conducted on January 30 - February 27, 2023 with the research location at UPTD SMAN 1 Sungailiat using 2 classes as research samples taken randomly (random sampling) so that 2 classes were obtained, namely class XI IPS 3 as the experimental class and XI IPS 1 as the control class. The purpose of this study was conducted to determine whether there is an influence on students who have received the application of debate methods in learning, especially history learning on the critical thinking skills of students at UPTD SMAN 1 Sungailiat. The data collection techniques used in this study used observation techniques and test techniques using instruments that had previously been validated by experts and validated using classes outside the research sample. The statistics used in this study in analyzing data in proving the hypothesis using the barlett t test with the criteria if the calculation with a real level (α) of 5% or 0.05 until the results obtained that tcount> ttable where 2.3854 > 1.668, then Hα is accepted and Ho is rejected.
