Abstract

In this study, the characteristics of forward and backward impeller were analyzed by conducting several testing steps namely testing on centrifugal pump installation, measuring fluid pressure by pressure gauge, measuring fluid power as well as measuring electrical motor power and overall efficiency. In this test, a type of CP 200 centrifugal pump by re-making a 128.5 mm-diameter impeller used to pump the fluid was used. The testing was done based on speed difference. During the test, the data including volumetric size to determine the desired debit was obtained, then fluid power measurement through measuring tools was conducted and at the same time, when the fluid was being pumped, the measurement of electrical motor power using a multi-meter tool was conducted as well. In this test the researcher tests the fluid capacity by measuring the mass of water divided by the density of water, where to find the water mass is done how to put water into a bucket or measuring cup, first weigh the mass of the bucket or measuring glass and put the water into volumetric until the water at the volumetric height point is determined, the researcher determines the water level in volumetric to 200 mm then the water in the volumetric is discharged through the exhaust pipe which is in volumetric, then the water is put into a bucket or measuring cup where at the highest point 200 mm to water there is at point 0 mm, then the collected water is put into a bucket then weighed with a body scales where the unit is kg, then after getting the measurement results on the scale, the mass of fluid that has been weighed is reduced by the mass of the bucket or measuring cup that has been measured before , so that when entered dala m calculation of the obtained volume of water, then the volume of water is divided by the time the pump releases water to the specified volumetric height so that the actual capacity measurement results in accordance with volumetric specifications. Furthermore, to measure the pressure of the pump is done by using the pump inlet pressure gauge and pump out pressure by subtracting the pump out pressure at less pump inlet pressure, this tool is used in the next unit bar converted to pascal by multiplying the measured data by 100,000 for change the bar unit into pascal, then the outlet pressure is reduced by the pressure of entry in pascal divided by the density of water and earth gravity so that the result of pump pressure in meters. Furthermore, to find out the hydraulic power or water power, the water density formula is multiplied by the earth's gravity then multiplied by the pump pressure obtained and multiplied by the previous water capacity, so that the results obtained for measuring the power of water in Watts. To find out the power of the electric motor used a voltage and electric current measuring instrument that is ac multi meter, where this tool can calculate the voltage and current as well as the power factor cos phi with the voltage formula multiplied by the current and multiplied by the power factor cos phi so that it is obtained in Watts. Then the calculation is done to get the overall efficiency or the overall efficiency of the pump, that is by means of the fluid power divided by the power of the electric motor and multiplied by 100 to get the efficiency in %. Then to measure capacity, pressure, fluid power, electric motor power and overall efficiency for variations in the direction of the impeller blade with variations in valve openings and variations in pump speed are carried out the steps as above. After all the data is obtained and then analyzed by reading the graph or characteristic curve of the data that has been tested so that the researcher can more easily read the test data, then the researcher can deduce the results of the test.
