Abstract

The power generation sector in Indonesia is dominated by fossil coal-fired steam power plant. Based on these factors, the steam power plant must be reviewed through thermal energy system performance analysis. Through analyzing the performance of thermal energy system in steam power plant could be identified opportunities to make more efficient use and energy savings. In this research obtained the results of coal calorific value of 4531 kcal/kg, 5986 kcal/kg and 5707 kcal/kg with an average Boiler efficiency of direct method are 90.8%, 81.7%, 84.1% and Boiler efficiency of indirect method are 62.3%, 71.0%, 69.7%. The thermal efficiency of Turbine obtained an average result of 32.5% and the overall heat transfer rate in the Condenser is 194.8 kW. Calculation of exergy analysis on each generating equipment includes Boiler, Turbine and Condenser. The average exergy calculation in Boiler 39.7%, Steam Turbine 87.2%, and Condenser 54.6%. Calculation of plant performance which includes thermal cycle efficiency, plant heat rate, work ratio and specific fuel consumption. Average calculation of thermal cycle efficiency 28.34%, plant heat rate 5105 kcal/kWh, work ratio 0.9992 and specific fuel consumption 0.85. In this research, it is expected to operate the plant based on plant operation governance standards. Starting from using of coal calorific value must be within the limits of Boiler Manual Book, namely 4500≤GHV≤5000 kcal/kg and operating condition parameters must be in accordance based on Operation Manual Book.
