Abstract

Frequent fires of land and forest in Indonesia caused smoke haze that has adverse effects oh health, environment and economic sectors. Pangkalan Lampam village is one of the five priority districts of haze prone areas in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatera. The smoke haze is almost annually occurred in Pangkalan Lampam Village. Preparedness is a disaster management step in the pre-disaster stage. This study aimed to analyze the level of preparedness of the village community of Pangkalan Lampam against the smoke haze. This study used cross-sectional study design with 86 KK samples. Technique of sampling used accidental sampling technique. The results of the research in the community of Pangkalan Lampam Village showed that the society tends to be in an unprepared category (59.3%). Bivariate test results obtained pvalue of gender (0,257), age (1,000), work (0,001), education (0,000) and length of stay (0,752) to community preparedness level. Some of variables that related to community preparedness level are work and education. Meanwhile, as for other variables which are gender, age and length of stay are not significantly affect toward preparedness level. The government is expected to continue the counselling about smog disaster especially when approaching dry season, also to forming a team or cadre to dissemination of information about how to countermeasures smog so all of the community get the information.
