Abstract

Cassia alata Linn contains flavonoid compounds which are widespread in all parts of the plants. Flavonoids are a class of phenols that have efficacy such as anti-inflamatory, antihypertensive, diuretics, and improve the work of capillary blood vessels. Cassia alata leaves contained flavonoid compounds that have been widely studied as a diuretic agent. Research used wistar male rats and divided into 5 groups, consisting of normal control group (suspension of Sodium CMC 1% 2 mL/200 gBW), positive control group (furosemide 20 mg/kgBW), and treatment groups I–III : ethanolic extract of Cassia alata Linn leaves dose of 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kgBW. Before treatment and every 3 hours, rats were given 2 mL of distilled water 2 mL/200gBW. The volume of urine was measured after the treatment every 1 hour for 6 hours and analyzed qualitatively of sodium, potassium, and cloride ions. Furosemide as a positive control produced the most volume of urine, 5.5 mL. Ethanolic extract of Cassia alata Linn leaves 1000mg/BW dose produced 3.5 ml total volume of urine and had the highest diuretic activity, 39.90%, than the other dose of ethanolic extract. ED50 value was 1437,6 mg/kgBW. Furosemide and ethanolic extract of Cassia alata Linn leaves showed the positive result of urine that contained sodium, potassium, and chloride ions.
